Bangkok

 

Bangkok is the largest city in Thailand, as well as being it’s capital and main port.  It is the cultural, educational, political and economic center of Thailand, as well as being the only metropolis.Most Thais are welcoming and friendly to visitors to Bangkok, as it is one of the most highly visited cities in Southeast Asia.  Bangkok has an important influence on Southeast Asia’s industrial and financial sectors.

 

Bangkok is also well-known for its water travel by way of its rivers.  Bangkok is also the center of transportation in Thailand with major roads and railways branching out to various parts of the country.In Bangkok, numerous beautiful temples can be found featuring traditional Thai architecture. The old sections of Bangkok are immensely popular tourist spots, particularly with the royal Grand Palace.  Bangkok is an interesting blend of traditional buildings and modern skyscrapers.

 


Chiang Mai

 

"Chiengmai" or "Chiangmai", is the largest and most culturally significant city in northern Thailand, and is the capital of Chiang Mai Province. It is located 700 km north of Bangkok, among the highest mountains in the country. The city is on the Ping river, a major tributary of the Chao Phraya river.

 

In recent years, Chiang Mai has become an increasingly modern city and attracts approximately 1 million visitors each year. The city has long been a major center for handcrafted goods, umbrellas, jewelry (particularly silver) and woodcarving.This Chiang Mai Metropolitan Area has a population of nearly one million people, more than half the total of Chiang Mai Province.

 


Chiang Rai

 

Chiang Rai is Thailand’s most northern province and is frequented mostly by tourists and shoppers. Changrai is 785 km north of Bangkok and is in the midst of mountains and hills. Attractions include the famous Golden Triangle and the mighty MekongRiver.

 

There are many activities you can indulge like visiting the only handcrafted White Temple in Thailand; the ever changing flowers in the most beautiful botanical garden (Doi Tung); Hill-tribes, Opium or the National museum; elephant riding; shopping for foodstuff; clothing; jewelries; handicrafts or ride on a long propeller boat on the Mekong river; explore the natural rock formation and caves with spectacular formations e.g. Big Cave, Fish Cave.

 


Pattaya 

Pattaya,  is a city in Thailand, located on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand, about 165 km southeast of Bangkok located within but not part of Amphoe Bang Lamung

 

Pattaya is a popular tourist resort on the North Gulf Coast of Eastern Thailand, located 150 km south-east of Bangkok. From middle-section to the southern end of Pattaya Beach are many restaurants, bars, department stores, souvenir stores, as well as other places of entertainment. Khao Pattaya (Khao Phra Bat) is a small hill to the south of Pattaya Beach. The view point on the hilltop offers a panoramic view of Pattaya City and Pattaya Bay.

 
 


Hat Yai
 

Hat Yai is a city in southern Thailand near the boundary to Malaysia. Hat Yai is the biggest city of Songkhla Province and the largest metropolitan area in Southern and second largest metropolitan of Thailand. However Songkhla is the capital and the center of administration and culture while Hat Yai is the business center. The two cities are considered as twin cities due to the close connection.The name "Hat Yai" is a short version of "Ma Hat Yai", meaning big Ma Hat  tree, a relative of jackfruits in genus Artocarpus.

 

Whether coming from Malaysia or continuing your travels in that direction, Hat Yai is an ideal stopover. Hat Yai, is in effect the south’s major city, its commercial, shopping and entertainment center. Best known as a fun city, it has ample opportunities for sporting activities and entertainment abound. Children will enjoy the Bhasawang Big Splash, a 15m slide in the middle of a lagoon-like swimming pool. For a spectator sport, there is bull fighting, a traditional southern entertainment in which two beast lock horn in a trial of strength.

 


Lampang

 
Lampang is a city of about 800,000 people, some 600 km from Bangkok and 100 km from Chiang Mai.  It is situated in the Wang River valley, bordered by the Khuntan Mountains on the west and Pi-Pan-Num Mountain range on the east.

 

Rainy season runs from June until November.  Being in a relative rain shadow, Lampang receives less precipitation than neighboring provinces and rarely suffers from extensive flooding which has plagued Chiang Mai in recent years.

 

Lampang, also called Nakhon Lampang  to differentiate from Lampang Province, is the third largest town in northern Thailand and capital of Lampang Province and the Lampang district. Traditional names for Lampang include Wiang Lakon and Khelang Nakhon.

 


Nakhon Pathom

 
Nakhon Pathom is one of the central provinces of Thailand. Nakhon Pathom is 56 kilometres west of Bangkok. It is administratively divided into 6 districts.The province features an ancient religious structure called “Phra Pathom Chedi”, the first religious landmark that signified the influx of Buddhism into Thailand. Nakhon Pathom is also renowned for its abundant fruits varieties and famous dishes.

 

 


Phuket

 
Phuket  formerly known as Tha-Laang or Talang, or Junk Ceylon in Western sources, a distortion of the Malay Tanjung Salang, is one of the southern provinces of Thailand. Phuket, which is approximately the size of Singapore, is Thailand’s largest island. The island is connected to mainland Thailand by two bridges. It is situated off the west coast of Thailand in the Andaman Sea. Phuket formerly derived its wealth from tin and rubber, and enjoyed a rich and colorful history. The region now derives much of its income from tourism.

 

There are many tropical island paradises in the world, but Phuket continues to rate high right up there as one of the very best.Today, Phuket still remains the wealthiest province in Thailand with the highest per capita income and an annual influx of tourists from all over the world that tops one million. The island has learned more towards the development of up-market resorts, such as the Evason Phuket, which can be easily classified as equal to the best in the world.

Ubon Ratchathani

 

Ubon Ratchathani is one of the north-eastern provinces of Thailand, and the country’s easternmost. Ubon is about 600 km away from Bangkok. The people here in Ubon Ratchathani are the first people to see the sunrise in Thailand.

 

In Ubon Ratchathani, you will find a place full of spice, not only in the great Thai food here but also in the character of the people too. If you go to a party sponsored by E-sarn people you will be guaranteed a good time. Good music, good food, lively people and cold beer.

 


Udon Thani

 

Udon Thani is a northeastern province covering an area of 15,589 square kilometers. The provincial capital is 564 kilometers northeast of Bangkok. Udon Thani is probably best known for its archaeological wonders, paramount among them the hamlet of the Ban Chiang where the world’s first Bronze Age civilization is believed to have flourished more than 5,000 years ago.

 

Udon Thani ( also Udorn Thanee) is a city in Northern Isaan regino of Thailand. Often referred to as simply Udon, the city should not be confused with Ubon (Ubon Ratchathani) to the southeast.

 


Surat Thani

 

Surat Thani is the largest of the southern provinces  of Thailand, on the eastern shore of the Gulf of Thailand. Surat Thani literally means "City of the Good People" and is the former seat of the Srivijaya Empire Surat Thani is located 644 kms. from Bangkok.There are a tremendous number of island along the coast.Surat Thani is administratively divided into 18 districts and 1 sub-district.

 

The numerous islands along the coast makes Surat Thani (often known as Surat in short) a perfect hideaway for vacationers from around the world. The ideal destination for many is the Penang-sized Ko Samui, Thailand’s third largest island, and its neighbour Ko Pha-ngan a celebrated island that hosts the biggest beach full moon party. North of Ko Pha-ngan is Ko Tao, renowned for its excellent coral reefs. The best time to enjoy one of these islands to the fullest is from April to November.

Nakhon Ratchasima

 

Nakhon Ratchasima is a city  in the north-east of Thailand and gateway to Isan. It is the capital of the Nakhon Ratchasima Province and Nakhon Ratchasima district.

 

Nakhon Ratchasima, usually referred to as Korat, is the largest city in the Isaan region of Thailand. Its proximity to Bangkok and Issan make it a good stopping-off point for travellers who are heading into Issan.

 

Despite the size of the city, it is not a favoured holiday destination for the average foreign traveller. Instead, visitors are more likely to base themselves in the city as they visit nearby tourist destinations such as Khao Yai national park, Phimai and Phanom Rung.

 


Nakhon Si Thammarat

 

Nakhon Si Thammarat is one of the southern provinces of Thailand, at the eastern shore of the Gulf of Thailand. The name of the province derives from its Pali-Sanskrit name Nagara Sri Dhammaraja (City of the Sacred Dharma King), which in Thai pronunciation becomes Nakhon Si Thammarat.

 

Nakhon Si Thammarat town is the centre of Buddhism in the South, with a history dating back to the Srivijaya period. The most famous sight is Wat Phra Mahathat with its massive 1,500- year-old chedi containing relics of Lord Buddha brought from Sri Lanka.

 

Nakhon Si Thammarat boasts pristine verdant jungles abundant with luxuriant vegetation and is also noted for picturesque beaches and beautiful waterfalls.

 


Songkhla

 

Songkhla  is a city in the Songkhla Province of southern Thailand, near the border with Malaysia. The city itself is surrounded by beaches such as Samila  & Son Awn and also known as "the great city on two seas". With the beaches, some historical centres and nice green parks, this place is definitely a good battery recharge point before heading to more lively Hat Yai. The city is a part of Greater Hatyai-Songkhla Metropolitan Area.

 

Due to its location at the opening of the big Songkhla lake to the Gulf of Thailand, Songkhla is a fishing town and also an important harbour. It is the major seaport on the east side of the Isthmus of Kra.Songkhla was sometimes known as Singgora or Singora (City of Lions).
